Shaping. The new book BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group) "The History of the Architectural Future" is a far-sighted attempt to look beyond the horizon of time. The Danish word for “design” is “formgivning”, which literally means to give shape to something that has not yet been formed. In other words, to shape the future. Using our power to shape, rather than to allow the future to take shape, is more important now than ever, as humanity's influence on the planet continues to increase and creates more and more serious problems for all forms of life. Architecture plays a special role, offering spaces for our lives that are fragments of the emerging future. On more than 700 pages, Bjarke Ingels presents his personal selection of projects, including a 12,000 square meter LEGO house in Denmark, man-made ecosystems floating in the oceans, the reconstruction of a World War II bunker into a museum of contemplation and a power plant on a ski slope dedicated to Copenhagen Carbon Neutrality Commitment Day. With the help of architecture and design, BIG forms a stable and colorful world at the same time. Formgiving is also an addition to the exhibition of the same name, which was conceived at the Danish Architectural Center in Copenhagen and will be presented at other venues around the world. More than 65 projects document the global work of BIG through the eyes of their users - from the drawing board to global construction sites and finished projects. Throughout the book, an idea of events that will happen in five, ten or fifty years is given, and evidence is given of BIG's inflexibility in striving to go beyond the ordinary and beyond the worlds in order to contribute to the future with the help of each project. Each step not only opens up a world similar to our dreams, but is already trying to realize these dreams pragmatically. We have the power to create the world of tomorrow!
